The President of the United States doesn’t act alone. To be successful, the President must have the support of at least one other branch of government. When Washington, DC seems out of control we can stay somewhat insulated by our state government. Having a State Senate and Assembly that aligns with our values allows us to pass legislation on Health Care, the Environment, Schools, Workers Rights, Civil Rights and Diversity on the state level is vitally important. These races are often ignored by many yet they have such a big impact on our daily lives. Over the past two years our state government passed (list some accomplishments), all while our Federal government was embroiled in total chaos. Our state got hit with the pandemic early in part because of our international airports and lack of knowledge about this new disease. As we learned more, our state put together a comprehensive plan with clear science based parameters. We have had many human casualties and business losses, and that is tragic, but we were able to slow the losses and get control because there was a competent plan coupled with high citizen compliance. We have continued to mostly be in declining or steady COVID levels overall ever since. Comparing this to other states whose infection rise started much later than ours which allowed them to have more knowledge on their side, many of these states chose not to follow science and flout CDC guidance and have been on the rise ever since. The differences in state government had a direct impact on the COVID-19 trajectory in each state. The more control we have of the virus, the more we follow mask wearing and distancing, the more people and businesses will survive. This election is one of the most consequential in our lifetimes.
